Our Ministries

Church life at Redeemer doesn’t stop on Sunday. Through the week we meet in one another’s homes to open the Bible, share a meal, pray, and encourage each other to follow Jesus. Everyone is welcome.

Most of these meet in homes, so get in touch and we’ll tell you where. For Sunday mornings and Redeemer Kids, see Our Services.

Homegroup

A homegroup is simply a group of people meeting regularly to share life and open God’s Word together: a place to build friendships, go deeper with one another, and grow in our love for God and for each other.

Wednesday in the Word

Our homegroup meets every second Wednesday evening. It’s a relaxed discussion rather than a lecture: there’s a chapter to read beforehand, and a shorter focus passage that we talk through together. At the moment we’re working our way through the Gospel of Luke.

Together we seek to understand each passage within its context and in the light of the rest of Scripture, and then to ask what it means for how we live.

When
Every second Wednesday, 7:15pm
Who
Everyone aged 13 and over. Younger children are welcome to come along too.
Wednesday in the Word: fortnightly homegroup.

Five questions we ask of every passage

  1. What did you find interesting about this passage? Why?
  2. What questions come to mind when reading it?
  3. What do we learn about people from it?
  4. What do we learn about God (or Jesus) from it?
  5. In light of the passage and what we’ve discussed, how will you put it into practice this week?

Men’s Ministry

Christ calls us to a lifelong journey of looking more to Him and becoming more like Him, but He doesn’t call us to walk it alone.

“If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Luke 9:23

That is what Men Discipling Men is about. We encourage every man in the congregation to meet regularly, weekly if possible, in a group of three or four, to encourage and challenge one another as we seek to grow in Christlikeness.

It’s about close relationships: the kind where sin and struggles can be shared honestly, and where we can bring the gospel to bear on each other’s lives. Want to know more? Get in touch.

Monthly Men’s Breakfast: food and fellowship.

Monthly Men’s Breakfast

Food and fellowship on a Saturday morning: a cooked breakfast, good conversation, and the real encouragement of hearing how God has been at work in the lives of the men of Redeemer.

When
A Saturday most months, 8–9:30am
Who
All the men of the church. Bring a friend.

Women’s Ministry

Our women’s ministry helps the women of Redeemer grow as disciples of Jesus, in friendship with one another. It is led by one of our deacons, who sets time aside each week for discipleship, care, and bringing the women of the church together.

Tea & Testimony

Every couple of months the women of the church gather in someone’s home on a Saturday evening to pause, catch up, and enjoy real fellowship over a hot cup of tea (and, usually, some cake and biscuits). Each time, one of the women shares her testimony.

When
A Saturday every couple of months, 7pm
Who
All the women of the church, whether you’ve been here for years or have just arrived.
Tea & Testimony: warm your hands, warm your heart.

What is a testimony?

A testimony is simply a personal account of God’s goodness. Often it’s the story of how someone came to faith, but it can also be about a season of hardship, growth or change in which God’s presence and power were clearly felt.

These aren’t just stories about us: they point to God’s faithfulness and grace, and they’re a wonderful way to encourage one another and give glory to Him.

Prayer

We pray because we depend on God for everything we hope to see in our lives, our church and our city. Prayer runs through the life of Redeemer, from Sunday morning to the living rooms where our groups meet.

A member of the congregation raises a hand as Sean, preaching, opens his arms.
  • On Sundays

Every second Sunday, one of our members leads us in an intercessory prayer for our world, our city, and our church family. On the alternate Sunday, we come together in prayer groups and pray for specific needs within the church.

  • Prayer and fasting

From time to time we set aside a weekend to pray and fast together, seeking the Lord’s direction for us as individuals and as a church, and asking how we can make Him known in New Plymouth, New Zealand and beyond.

  • With churches across New Zealand

We join the online prayer meetings of Newfrontiers, the family of churches we belong to, praying for one another and for our country.

Is there something we can pray about for you? Send us a message.

Biblical Counselling

We offer free biblical counselling, both to our church family and to the wider community.

Biblical counselling brings God’s Word to bear on the struggles of life, with care that is grounded in Scripture and centred on Christ.

Our counselling is led by Sean, our lead Elder, who has trained in biblical counselling through Grace Theological College and serves on the board of the New Zealand Biblical Counselling Association (NZBCA).

If you, or someone you know, would like to talk with someone, get in touch.

Study at Grace Theological College

We recommend and encourage anyone who wants to grow in their understanding of the Bible, or in caring for others, to study at Grace Theological College (GTC), an evangelical and Reformed college here in New Zealand. Our own staff and several members of our congregation train there.

Courses can be taken full- or part-time. For counselling, the Introduction to Biblical Counselling paper is a good place to start.

Church Library

Redeemer has a lending library of books for adults, teens and children, chosen to help you know and love God better.

There’s something on the shelves for everyone, from apologetics and theology to fiction and books for children and teens. Our online catalogue is coming soon.

What’s in the library? Apologetics, Children and Teen, Christian Living, Fiction, Historical Accounts, Ministry, Study Tools, Theology and Doctrine.

Want to come along to any of these? Get in touch and we’ll tell you where and when.
