Update No. 410

Good Afternoon Redeemer Family

Sermon Recordings

This week, Sean preached from Hebrews 10:19–26, encouraging us to move from knowledge to understanding, from knowing the gospel to living it. He exhorted us to draw near to God with confidence, holding fast to our hope in Christ, and committing ourselves to one another in love. Hebrews 10 reminds us that access to God through Jesus is meant to shape our faith, our perseverance, and our life together as we wait for His return.

If you weren’t able to make it on Sunday or if you’d like to listen to this sermon or any previous sermons, they’re all available here.

Wednesday In The Word

We are thrilled to announce that we are launching a new fortnightly Homegroup! Unlike our previous "pop-up" groups that ran for a single term, this group will run consistently throughout the year (with a break over the Christmas holidays). Because this is our only Homegroup, and we don’t want anyone to miss out, it is open to all ages (13+).

What is Homegroup?
At Redeemer, a homegroup is simply a group of people meeting regularly to share life and open God’s Word together. It’s a space to build community, deepen relationships, and grow in our love for God and one another.

How it Works
This year, we will be journeying through the Gospel of Luke. Rather than a formal lecture, our time will be more like a relaxed discussion. We ask that you read a Context Reading before we meet together each fortnight, but our discussions will be based around a shorter Focus Passage. If you are unable to read them beforehand, no worries, we’ll read (at least) the Focus Passage together on the night. We’ll also keep things simple and accessible by just asking five key questions:

What did you like about this story? Why?

What questions might someone have about it?

What do we learn about people?

What do we learn about God (or Jesus)?

After hearing this, what are you going to do this week?

Join us for the First Session
We are kicking things off on Wednesday, February 11th, with the theme: Heavenly Announcements & Prophetic Hymns.

Context Reading: Luke 1:1–80

Focus Passage: Luke 1:46–56

I will share the readings for each upcoming gathering in the weekly newsletter and our new WhatsApp group, "Wednesday in the Word." If you’d like to come along, please join the WhatsApp group so we can stay connected!

Redeemer Men’s Breakfast

Our first (mostly) monthly men’s breakfast is coming up next month, Saturday, February 14th. Regular time and place!

What Are Our Kids Learning?

On Sunday, the children explored the amazing truth that God created everything out of nothing. From the light on day one to the animals on day six, we saw that everything God makes is good. He also established a pattern of working for six days and resting on the seventh, not because He gets tired, but to give us a healthy example to follow for our own lives.

We learned that the very best part of creation is people! God made us in His image to reflect His goodness like a mirror and to fill the earth with His glory. We also discovered that Jesus was right there in the beginning; the Bible tells us that everything in heaven and on earth was actually created through Him and for Him.

Each lesson features a cool video that tells and explains the Bible story. We will include these videos (like the one above) each week, in this newsletter, so you can rewatch them with your kids. Even if you don’t have children in the Sunday School, the videos are engaging and very well done. Definitely worth a watch for children and adults alike!

The children’s memory verse this weel is: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” - Genesis 1:1

SGA NZ - Learning to Live by the Light

Kyiv is a city that has learned to measure time differently. Not by calendars or seasons, but by electricity schedules. By air raid alerts. By the quiet calculation of when water will run, when heating will come on, and when it will all disappear again.

For Pastor Viktor and his family, daily life now looks much like it does for thousands of families across the capital — a constant adapting, adjusting, and re-planning. “We even joke among the pastors,” Viktor says, “that nothing teaches you time management like the city's electricity charts.”

Study at Grace Theological College

There are a couple of classes we would like to encourage the folk and Redeemer to consider studying at Grace Theological College. You can read about both of these in the images above. If you want more information about studying at GTC, you can click on the images, and you’ll be directed to the GTC website. If you are interested in studying, Sean would love to chat to you about your options and how the church could support you.

Redeemer Chuch WhatsApp Community

We now have 32 members in our WhatsApp community, which is wonderful! If you still haven’t joined, you can scan the QR or click on the image above. If you don’t have WhatsApp, and/or if you’d like any help joining the Redeemer Church Community, please feel free to reply to this email, contact me (Fraser) on 0273086075 or chat to me at church on Sunday. We’ll get you sorted!

Reflection For The Week

“If we pursue theological knowledge for its own sake, it is bound to go bad on us. It will make us proud and conceited… There can be no spiritual health without doctrinal knowledge; but it is equally true that there can be no spiritual health with it, if it is sought for the wrong purpose and valued by the wrong standard.”

- J. I. Packer
